Completed in 1998, the Anacostia Community Services Center is a 740 square meter, single-story building located on a one-half acre site in the center of the Anacostia section of Washington, D.C. The facility contains offices, classrooms, conference rooms and a 120 square meter auditorium oriented to serve the community’s needs. The Center provides a multitude of services to individuals and families, including supplies, housing, emergency services, youth development, basic computer skills, health and nutrition education, and a meeting facility available to community and neighborhood organizations. The site provides 23 parking spaces for employees and visitors and a loading area for receiving and distributing food and clothing to the members of the community.
The project work included the razing and preparation of the construction site and tying into city utilities, including the installation of a sand filtration system, new storm water drain system, and electrical, water, and gas connections. Also installed in the new building were an HVAC system, office facilitation, kitchen, multipurpose meeting room, parking, and building security that included both a perimeter fence and brick walls.
