Carpi Residence

Description:

The renovation and restoration of the Carpi residence involved bringing back to life an abandoned historically significant residence in the heart of Old Town, Alexandria, Virginia.  BPA managed the entire effort to meet present day building codes, stringent design requirements imposed by the Alexandria Board of Architectural Review, and specific living requirements of the clients.  Originally built in the 1790s, the house is one of the 20 free standing “flounder style” residential structures surviving in Virginia.  The design included restoration of the building exterior, extension of the rear, and comprehensive redesign of the interior to create a comfortable living environment.  New electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems were incorporated into the existing building shell with minor visual impact to the building exterior.
